Osztottad

Osztottad is the second-person singular past tense form of the Hungarian verb osztani, meaning to divide, distribute, or allocate. The infinitive osztani refers to the act of separating something into parts or assigning portions or responsibilities. The form osztottad signals that the subject is “you” and that the action occurred in the past.

In Hungarian, past tense forms are built from a stem plus a past-tense marker and a personal ending. For osztani the second-person singular past is formed as osztottad, from the stem oszt- plus the past marker -ott and the personal ending -ad.

Osztani is transitive and used with a direct object. Osztottad is used when you are addressing someone informally: for example, “Te osztottad ki a lapokat a játékban” (You dealt the cards in the game) or “Osztottad szét a feladatokat a diákok között” (You distributed the tasks among the students). The verb covers a range of distributions, from dividing goods to assigning duties.

Note that osztottad is distinct from megosztottad, which means “you shared” in the sense of sharing information or content (as with social media). Megosztani is the verb used for that sense, with a different stem and prefix.
