Osinbajo

Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo, commonly known as Yemi Osinbajo, (born 8 March 1957) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as the Vice President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and completed his secondary education at Igbobi College in Lagos. He studied law at the University of Lagos, earning an LLB, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981.

Osinbajo built a legal and public service career before entering national politics. He worked as a lawyer and lecturer and later held significant legal and administrative roles in Lagos State. From 1999 to 2007, he served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State during the administration of Governor Bola Tinubu, where he was involved in legal and justice sector reforms.

In 2015, Osinbajo was selected as the running mate of Muhammadu Buhari and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2015. He was reelected in 2019 and, during Buhari’s presidency, acted as President on multiple occasions when Buhari was outside the country or unable to perform duties. As vice president, Osinbajo chaired the National Economic Council, overseeing economic policy coordination and governance initiatives, and played a prominent role in policy discussions on anti-corruption, governance, and economic reform.

Osinbajo is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is married to Dolapo Osinbajo, and they have three children. His public profile emphasizes legal work, public service in Lagos State, and national leadership roles in economic planning and governance.
