Osallistuuttavan

Osallistuuttavan is not a commonly recognized standard Finnish form in dictionaries. In practice, Finnish grammar would normally use the related participial forms derived from the verb osallistuttaa (to involve or to cause someone to participate) or osallistua (to participate). The present active participle of osallistuttaa is typically osallistuttava, and its genitive singular is osallistuttavan. This form is used to modify a following noun in noun phrases, for example in a construction such as osAllIl tuuttavan toiminnan suunnittelu, meaning the planning of the activity that involves or causes participation. The form osallistuuttavan would thus be viewed as a nonstandard or mistaken variant of osallistuttavan.

The distinction between osallisuutta (participation) and the participle forms relates to function rather than meaning. Osallistuttavan serves as a nominal modifier in front of a noun, indicating “the one who causes participation” or, in some contexts, “the participation-causing” aspect of a thing or activity. In contrast, the present active participle of osallistua, which is osallistuva, describes someone who participates themselves, with its own inflectional forms such as osallistuvan in the genitive singular.

Because of potential confusion with closely related forms, writers aiming for precision in formal or legal Finnish typically prefer the standard form osallistuttavan when they need a genitive singular present-active participle. If a text uses osallistuuttavan, readers should assess whether it is a typographical error or a nonstandard/colloquial variant.
