Orgelbauer
Orgelbauer is the craftsperson responsible for the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of pipe organs. The work combines woodworking, metalworking, acoustics, organology, and wind systems. Orgelbauer may be involved from the planning stage, drafting specifications for pipe sizes, action type, and temperament, through to carving the case, fabricating pipes, assembling the wind supply, voicing the pipes, and tuning the instrument. In many cases the role also includes ongoing restoration, conservation, and repair of historic organs, as well as periodic maintenance to keep the instrument in tune and functioning as intended.
