OrderDetails

OrderDetails is a data construct used in e-commerce and order management systems to capture the factual contents of a customer order. It aggregates information about items purchased, pricing, taxes, shipping, billing, and fulfillment, providing a single source of truth for an order's current state.

Core components typically include identifiers such as order_id and customer_id; dates such as order_date and estimated_delivery; status fields such as order_status, payment_status, and fulfillment_status; and monetary fields such as currency, subtotal, discount_amount, tax_amount, shipping_cost, and total_amount. Line items are usually represented as a collection of items with product_id, product_name, quantity, unit_price, and line_total.

OrderDetails is linked to the parent Order record and to Customer or Account details; it may reference Payment and Shipment records. The typical lifecycle starts when an order is created, grows with item additions or edits, then progresses through payment confirmation, fulfillment, shipment, and completion or cancellation.

Used for invoicing, customer support, fulfillment planning, and analytics. Functions include total computation, discount application, tax calculation, shipping cost aggregation, and validation against inventory and pricing rules.
