Opptaksår

Opptaksår is a term used in Norwegian higher education to denote the year in which a student is admitted to or enrolls in a study program. It identifies the cohort that was admitted, rather than the year in which the studies are completed. The opptaksår is commonly recorded on student records, transcripts, and degree certificates, and it is used in admissions statistics, funding calculations, and the organization of cohorts.

The concept differs from Studieår (the academic year), which refers to the period during which a student is actively studying. For programs with multiple intakes per year, such as autumn and spring starts, the opptaksår indicates the start year of the program and the cohort that began then.

In practice, opptaksår can be important for determining eligibility for certain grants, for calculating time-to-degree metrics, and for alumni records. Some institutions may distinguish between the year of admission and the first year of study if a student defers enrollment or changes programs.
