Opnari

Opnari is a constructed language (conlang) developed for speculative fiction and tabletop role-playing. It is designed to be approachable for learners while providing a distinct linguistic flavor for worldbuilding. The language is intended to be adaptable to multiple settings, from distant futures to medieval-like worlds, and to support varied character voices in dialogue and narration.

Phonology and writing: Opnari uses a primarily Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to mark vowel length and a few phonemic distinctions. The phoneme inventory emphasizes open syllables and a small set of consonants, producing a smooth, melodic sound. The default script is Latin, but phonology can be expressed with alternate orthographies in fiction.

Grammar: Opnari is largely analytic but employs an agglutinative noun and verb system. The basic word order is subject–object–verb, with rich case marking on nouns for nominative, accusative, and dative. Verbs inflect for tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality. Adjectives agree with the nouns they modify in number and case.

Lexicon and use: The vocabulary draws from the fictional culture that created the language and includes specialized terms for ecology, social structure, and ritual. Opnari has been used in several published stories, RPG modules, and online dictionaries maintained by language hobbyists. It serves as a practical tool for dialogue, worldbuilding, and linguistic experimentation.

History and reception: The language first appeared in community-created material in the 2010s and has since gathered a small but active community of learners and creators.
