Ophüls
Ophüls is a German surname best known for Max Ophüls (1902–1957), a German-born film director whose career spanned Germany, France, and the United States. Born in Saarbrücken, he began making features in the early 1930s, with works such as Liebelei (1933). After the rise of the Nazi regime, Ophüls left Germany and established himself in France, where he became a leading figure in European cinema, while also directing in the United States.
