Oottisia
Oottisia is a genus of small, nocturnal marsupials native to Australia. These creatures are commonly known as marsupial mice or native mice, although they are not rodents. They belong to the family Dasyuridae, which also includes quolls and Tasmanian devils. Oottisia are characterized by their pointed snouts, large eyes adapted for low light conditions, and a relatively long, prehensile tail. Their diet typically consists of insects, small invertebrates, and sometimes seeds or nectar. They are solitary animals and are most active during the night, spending their days in burrows or hollow logs. Several species are recognized within the Oottisia genus, each with slightly different geographic distributions and habitat preferences, ranging from arid inland areas to coastal woodlands. Reproduction involves the female giving birth to a small litter, which is then carried and nursed in a pouch. Conservation statuses vary among the species, with some facing threats from habitat loss and introduced predators.
