OnoMikoto
OnoMikoto, also known as Omoikane-no-Mikoto, is a deity in Japanese mythology, particularly prominent in the Kojiki, one of the oldest Japanese texts. OnoMikoto is often associated with the creation of the Japanese archipelago and the establishment of the imperial line. According to the Kojiki, OnoMikoto was the first emperor of Japan, reigning from 660 BCE to 585 BCE. He is said to have been born from the union of the sun goddess Amaterasu and the moon god Tsukuyomi. OnoMikoto is also known as the "originator of the imperial line," as he is believed to be the ancestor of all subsequent Japanese emperors. His reign is marked by the establishment of the imperial court and the beginning of the imperial calendar. OnoMikoto's legacy is celebrated in various Shinto rituals and festivals, particularly in the Setouchi region of Japan. Despite his historical significance, OnoMikoto remains a largely mythical figure, and his existence is often debated among scholars.
