Ondara

Ondara is a municipality in the province of Alicante, within the Valencian Community of Spain. It belongs to the Marina Alta comarca and lies inland from the Costa Blanca, a short distance west of the town of Denia. The municipal area comprises the town of Ondara and surrounding rural lands. The population is in the low thousands, and the town functions as a local service center for nearby villages.

Historically, agriculture—particularly citrus cultivation—shaped the local economy. In recent decades, retail and services have grown, supported by the presence of La Marina shopping and leisure center in Ondara, a major retail destination in the region. The town also benefits from its proximity to Denia’s tourist area while maintaining a traditional town center with a mix of older and newer buildings.

Ondara is connected by regional roads to Denia and other nearby towns, with bus services linking it to larger cities in the province. The local administration is headed by the Ayuntamiento de Ondara. Valencian and Spanish are used in education and public life, reflecting the bilingual character of the Valencian Community. Local cultural life includes traditional festivals and religious celebrations observed throughout the year.
