Oizo

Oizo is the musical project of French electronic musician and filmmaker Quentin Dupieux (born 1969). The project operates primarily as a solo endeavor, though early releases appeared under the alias Mr. Oizo. Dupieux’s work spans experimental electronic production, sound design, and a offbeat sense of humor.

Dupieux began releasing material in the late 1990s. The 1999 debut Analog Worms Attack introduced a raw, sample-based electronic style characterized by distorted textures and an appetite for unconventional sounds. The project soon drew attention for its quirky approach and DIY aesthetic.

One of Oizo’s best-known tracks is Flat Beat, released in 1999 as part of Analog Worms Attack. The track gained mainstream recognition after being used in a Levi’s television advertisement, and its music video featured the yellow puppet Flat Eric, helping to popularize the piece worldwide.

Beyond music, Quentin Dupieux is an acclaimed filmmaker. His feature films, including Rubber (2010), Wrong (2012), and Realité (2014), are noted for deadpan humor, surreal imagery, and inventive sound design. The crossover between his musical and cinematic work reflects a consistent interest in subverting expectations and exploring unusual concepts.
