Ohute

Ohute is a fictional mineral described in worldbuilding and speculative geology. In in-world lore, it is a layered silicate mineral with a blue-green iridescence and a pale orange fluorescence under ultraviolet light. Crystals are typically tabular to prismatic, with basal cleavage. In many descriptions, ohute has a Mohs hardness around 5, a specific gravity near 3.2, and a refractive index in the range 1.62–1.68, with noticeable pleochroism under polarized light.

Ohute is said to form in hydrothermally altered volcanic rocks, often along fracture zones within basalt and andesite. The type locality is the Ohuta Basin in the fictional country of Valara, where it was first identified by field geologist Dr. Suri Kelle in the late 1990s. The name derives from a local term meaning “glow” or “light.”

In-world uses include luminescent signaling materials, decorative stone, and potential components in energy storage composites where light emission is advantageous. Because of its distinctive glow, ohute is sometimes depicted as a tracer mineral in mining and geologic exploration.
