Ohjauslähteestä

Ohjauslähteestä is a Finnish term that translates to "source of control" or "locus of control" in English. It refers to the psychological concept that describes the degree to which individuals believe they have control over the events that affect their lives. This belief can be internal or external.

An individual with an internal locus of control believes that they are primarily responsible for their own successes and failures. They tend to attribute outcomes to their own efforts, abilities, and choices. For example, someone with an internal locus of control might say, "I got a good grade because I studied hard."

Conversely, an individual with an external locus of control believes that outside forces, such as luck, fate, or other people, are primarily responsible for what happens to them. They may feel that their actions have little impact on the outcomes they experience. For example, someone with an external locus of control might say, "I failed the exam because the teacher didn't like me."

The concept of ohjauslähde was developed by Julian Rotter in the 1960s. Research suggests that a generally internal locus of control is associated with positive outcomes, such as better academic achievement, greater job satisfaction, and improved health behaviors. However, the relationship is complex, and in some situations, an external locus of control might be adaptive. Understanding one's own ohjauslähde can provide insights into motivation, resilience, and overall well-being.
