Oesling

Oesling is the northern natural region of Luxembourg. In Luxembourgish it is called Oësling. It forms the northern third of the country and is part of the Ardennes, a broad upland area extending into Belgium and France. The region lies east of the Sûre river and north of the Gutland, and its landscapes are marked by long forested ridges, limestone hills, and deep river valleys cut by the Our and Sûre.

Oesling includes towns such as Clervaux, Wiltz, Vianden, and Esch-sur-Sûre. It is known for its castles and historic sites, including Clervaux Castle and Vianden Castle, as well as the Sûre and Our valleys. The Haute-Sûre Natural Park protects large areas of forest, wetlands, and pasture and is a focus for outdoor recreation.

Population density is lower than in southern Luxembourg. The economy is based on forestry, agriculture, small-scale industry, and tourism, with visitors drawn to hiking networks, cycling routes, and castle sites.
