Observationsstationer are facilities that house instruments for systematic data collection about the natural environment at fixed locations. They are used across multiple disciplines, including meteorology, astronomy, seismology, and environmental science, to produce long-running records that enable trend analysis and numerical modelling. By providing standardized measurements over time, these stations support weather forecasting, climate monitoring, scientific research, and public safety decisions. The term is commonly used in Scandinavian languages and in English as observation stations.

Common examples include meteorological stations (air temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation), hydrological stations (river discharge, water level), air quality stations (pollutants such as PM, NO2, O3), and seismological stations (ground motion). In astronomy, observatories at fixed sites record celestial coordinates, brightness, and other phenomena. Many stations are automated, while others require on-site personnel.

Observationsstationer belong to national networks and international programs, such as the World Meteorological Organization's Global Observing System, the Global Climate Observing System, and regional environmental monitoring networks. Data are stored in central archives, exchanged between institutions, and subjected to quality control and metadata standards to ensure comparability. Challenges include maintaining coverage in remote areas, ensuring data continuity across technology transitions, and addressing biases from urbanization or instrument changes.
