Objektidest

Objektidest is the Estonian elative plural form of the noun objekt (object). It translates roughly as “from the objects” and is used to indicate source or origin in phrases, similar to how English uses “from the objects.” The form results from combining the genitive plural stem of objekts (objektide) with the elative plural suffix -dest, yielding objektidest.

Morphology and formation: In Estonian, nouns form the elative plural with the suffix -dest to express movement or origin from multiple items. For objekt, the nominative plural is objektid, the genitive plural is objektide, and the elative plural is objektidest. This pattern mirrors how many other nouns can express plural sources or origins in clauses.

Usage: Objektidest is used when the sentence conveys information derived from or originating in multiple objects. For example, "Objektidest pärinevad andmed näitavad uuringu tulemusi" means “Data originating from the objects show the results of the study.” Another example: "Objektidest koostatud loend sisaldab 42 esinemist," meaning “The list assembled from the objects contains 42 occurrences.” In practice, objektidest commonly appears in formal or technical writing, especially in discussions of data sources, samples, or collections.

Notes: Like other Estonian case forms, objektidest alters the relationship between the noun and other sentence elements, often following prepositions or certain verbs that require the elative case. It is distinct from the genitive plural (objektide) and should be chosen according to the semantic role of origin or source.
