OSSE

OSSE refers to the Open Source Security Foundation, a collaborative community dedicated to improving the security of open source software. It was established in 2020 by the Linux Foundation and a coalition of industry leaders. The primary goal of OSSE is to identify and address security vulnerabilities in critical open source projects that underpin much of the world's digital infrastructure.

The foundation operates by providing resources, funding, and organizational support to security researchers and maintainers of open source projects. This includes initiatives like security audits, vulnerability remediation efforts, and the development of best practices for secure software development. OSSE focuses on projects deemed to be of high importance, often referred to as "critical projects," which are widely used and therefore represent a significant potential attack surface.

Key activities undertaken by OSSE include funding security reviews, facilitating the work of security experts, and promoting a culture of security within the open source ecosystem. By bringing together developers, security professionals, and organizations, OSSE aims to create a more resilient and secure open source software supply chain, benefiting both the projects themselves and the users who rely on them.
