OSB2

OSB2, also written as OSB/2, is a grade of oriented strand board defined for structural use in dry conditions. It is produced by bonding wood strands with synthetic resin adhesives and arranging them in cross-directional layers, then compressing them into rigid panels. OSB/2 is intended for load-bearing service where moisture exposure is limited and the panels can be protected or finished to keep them dry.

In performance terms, OSB/2 offers good strength and stiffness for its weight and is commonly used for interior wall and floor sheathing, roof decking, and other structural applications in dry environments. It has lower moisture resistance than later grades such as OSB/3 or OSB/4 and can swell or lose strength if exposed to prolonged wet conditions. As a result, OSB/2 is not generally recommended for exterior applications without protective weather barriers and appropriate moisture control.

Standardization and regional labeling vary. In Europe, EN 300 defines OSB/2 as a general-purpose panel, with OSB/3 and OSB/4 designated for moisture-prone or high-load applications. In other regions, product labels and ratings follow similar moisture-performance distinctions, though naming may differ.

Common panel thicknesses range from about 9 to 22 mm, with standard sizes differing by market (for example, roughly 2x4 feet to 4x8 feet in many regions). OSB/2 panels are valued for cost-effectiveness, dimensional stability, and readily availability, but buyers should consider moisture exposure and finishing requirements to ensure suitability for a given project.
