Nëntokësor

Nëntokësor, also spelled "nëntokësore" or "nëntokësorë," is a term used in Albanian to refer to a type of underground dwelling or shelter. These structures are typically found in rural areas and are constructed using natural materials such as earth, stone, and wood. Nëntokësorë are often used as storage spaces, animal shelters, or as a means of protection from harsh weather conditions.

The construction of a nëntokësor involves digging a pit into the ground and then covering it with a roof made of branches, leaves, or other natural materials. The interior is usually lined with straw or other insulating materials to provide warmth and comfort. In some cases, nëntokësorë may also serve as temporary living quarters, especially during the colder months.

Nëntokësorë are an important part of traditional Albanian architecture and culture. They reflect the resourcefulness and adaptability of the Albanian people, who have historically relied on their environment for survival. Today, while modern housing has largely replaced nëntokësorë, they remain a symbol of Albania's rural heritage and a testament to the ingenuity of its people.
