Nyssport

Nyssport is a fast-paced team sport developed in the early 2000s in Nyssa. It combines elements of handball, basketball, and lacrosse and is played on a rectangular field with nets at each end. The game emphasizes speed, agility, passing efficiency, and tactical positioning. The sport is governed internationally by the Nysssport Federation (NSF), which maintains rules, officiating standards, and competition calendars.

Gameplay and rules: Two teams of eight play on a rectangular field with nets at both ends. A round ball is used. Teams advance by passing and dribbling; a player may hold the ball for up to four seconds and take no more than six steps with possession. Goals are scored by shooting into the opponent’s net. Matches consist of two 20-minute halves, with rolling substitutions and a brief halftime. Overtime decides tied games.

Fouls and penalties: Defensive fouls lead to free throws; more serious infringements can incur penalty throws or temporary suspensions. The NSF enforces safety rules and standards for equipment.

Competitions and governance: The Nysssport Federation oversees the rules and the World Cup, held every four years, along with regional and national championships. The sport has seen growth in several continents, with increasing youth participation.

History and development: Nyssport originated in Nyssa in the early 2000s as a flexible sport designed for broad participation. The first rulebook appeared in 2003, international play began in 2006, and professional or semi-professional leagues emerged over the following decade.
