Nynäsbanan

Nynäsbanan is a railway line in Sweden connecting Stockholm to Nynäshamn. The line is approximately 60 kilometers long and is primarily used for commuter and regional train services. It is owned and managed by Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration.

The Nynäsbanan was originally built in two sections. The first part, from Älvsjö to Västerhaninge, opened in 1901 as part of the Stockholm-Nynäs Järnväg (Stockholm-Nynäs Railway). The southern section from Västerhaninge to Nynäshamn was completed in 1901. The railway was electrified in 1957. In 1963, the line was incorporated into the state-owned Swedish State Railways (SJ). Since 2007, train operations on Nynäsbanan have been contracted out by the regional public transport authority, Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL).

The line serves several stations and stops along its route, including stations in southern Stockholm and the towns of Handen, Västerhaninge, and Nynäshamn. Nynäshamn is also a significant port for ferries to the island of Gotland and other destinations in the Baltic Sea. Nynäsbanan is an important part of the public transport network for commuters traveling between Stockholm and the surrounding municipalities.
