Nyanchen
Nyanchen is a Tibetan Buddhist deity, often depicted as a female figure with a lion's body and a human head. She is considered the consort of Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of compassion, and is revered for her protective and nurturing qualities. In Tibetan culture, Nyanchen is associated with the moon and is often invoked for protection against evil spirits and for the well-being of children. Her name translates to "Moon Goddess" or "Moon Mother," reflecting her celestial association. Nyanchen is also known for her role in the Tibetan calendar, where she is associated with the lunar month of the 12th month. Her iconography typically includes a crescent moon on her forehead and a staff topped with a bell. Temples dedicated to Nyanchen are common in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, and she is often depicted in art and literature as a symbol of maternal care and divine protection.
