Nyálkahártyáin

Nyálkahártyáin refers to the mucous membranes of the mouth. These are the moist tissues that line the inside of the oral cavity, including the cheeks, lips, gums, tongue, and the roof and floor of the mouth. The primary function of the oral mucosa is protection. It acts as a barrier against mechanical damage, pathogens, and harmful substances, while also playing a role in sensation, lubrication, and taste.

The oral mucosa is composed of stratified squamous epithelium, which varies in thickness and keratinization depending on its location and function. For instance, the lining mucosa found on the cheeks and lips is non-keratinized and soft, allowing for flexibility. In contrast, the masticatory mucosa, covering the gums and the hard palate, is keratinized and more resilient to withstand the forces of chewing. Specialized mucosa on the tongue is responsible for taste sensation and has papillae containing taste buds.

Various conditions can affect the nyálkahártyáin. Infections, such as oral thrush (candidiasis) or viral infections like herpes simplex, can cause sores and inflammation. Inflammatory conditions like gingivitis and periodontitis primarily affect the gums. Trauma from biting, sharp food, or ill-fitting dental appliances can lead to ulcers. Furthermore, certain systemic diseases can manifest with oral lesions on the mucous membranes. Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for the health of the nyálkahártyáin.
