Nurmista

Nurmista is an estuary located in southwestern Finland, specifically on the southwestern shore of the Hailuoto Island in the bothnia sea. The body of water is associated with the river Närpiöjoki, which feeds it freshwater. The estuary is a mixture of both saltwater from the bothnia sea and freshwater from the Närpiöjoki river. The Hailuoto Island, situated in the Gulf of Bothnia, is known for its unique characteristics that comprise both a lake and a series of nearby rivers.

Nurmista is considered a hybrid environment where freshwater from the rivers commingles with the saltwater of the gulf. This diverse habitat presents a unique ecosystem that sustains various plant and animal species, both native and migratory.
