NotausFunktionen

NotAusFunktionen are emergency stop functions designed to immediately halt equipment operation in response to danger or malfunction. They are a core safety feature in industrial machines, consumer devices, and control systems, aimed at bringing systems to a safe state as quickly as possible and preventing injury to operators.

These functions are typically implemented with dedicated emergency stop devices such as red mushroom-head push buttons, key switches, or software-triggered stops integrated into control logic. They interrupt power or control signals and are designed to be easily reachable and clearly identifiable. In most installations the device is latching, remaining engaged until the operator performs a reset; non-latching variants exist for automatic power-down in some systems.

Design and compliance are central to NotAusFunktionen. They are engineered to be fail-safe, with the safety function independent from normal control loops and validated through testing and ongoing diagnostics. Relevant standards include ISO 13850 (emergency stop devices), IEC 62061, and ISO 13849-1 (safety-related parts of control systems). The goal is to ensure a safe state even in the presence of faults and to provide measurable levels of safety performance.

Implementation often uses safety relays or safety controllers, redundant channels, diagnostics, and periodic functional testing. Operators are trained to recognize and use NotAusFunktionen, and to perform a proper restart only after hazards are removed and the area is safe.

Applications span CNC machines, robotic systems, conveyors, presses, and other heavy equipment; software-based Not-Aus functions may appear in complex control architectures. They are typically complemented by interlocks, guarded access, and other protective measures to form a comprehensive safety system.
