Northwestern

Northwestern University is a private research university based in Evanston, Illinois, with campuses in Chicago and Doha, Qatar. Founded in 1851 to serve the Northwest Territory, it is one of the oldest universities in the region and operates as a large, research-focused institution. Its official motto is Quaecumque vera, Latin for “Whatsoever is true.” The university's colors are purple and white, and its mascot is Willie the Wildcat.

Northwestern comprises multiple schools and colleges, including the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Kellogg School of Management, the Pritzker School of Law (officially Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law), the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Medill School of Journalism, the School of Communication, the Bienen School of Music, and the School of Education and Social Policy, along with the School of Professional Studies. The university emphasizes interdisciplinary study and professional education, with undergraduate and graduate programs across the arts, sciences, engineering, business, journalism, and health sciences.

The Evanston campus sits along the shore of Lake Michigan and hosts a large residential and research environment. The Chicago campus concentrates much of the university's professional schools and research centers in the downtown area. Northwestern also operates Northwestern University in Qatar, established in partnership with the Qatar Foundation, offering programs in journalism, communication, and the arts and sciences.

Athletics are organized under the Northwestern Wildcats, who compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The university maintains a number of research institutes, libraries, and cultural facilities and has produced leaders across business, law, journalism, science, and the arts.
