Nonentailing

Nonentailing is a term used in logic and philosophy to describe a relationship between statements where the truth of one statement does not necessarily entail the truth of the other. This concept is often contrasted with entailment, where the truth of one statement guarantees the truth of another.

In classical logic, a statement A entails another statement B if and only if it is impossible for A to be true while B is false. This is often denoted as A ⊨ B. Nonentailing relationships, on the other hand, allow for the possibility of A being true while B is false.

For instance, the statement "If the moon were made of green cheese, it would still revolve around the Earth" is a nonentailing relationship because the truth of the antecedent does not entail the truth of the consequent.
