Nomor

Nomor is an Indonesian word meaning number or issue. It serves primarily as a label or identifier rather than the numeric value itself. In ordinary speech and official forms, nomor is used with nouns to designate a specific item, such as nomor telepon (telephone number), nomor identitas (identification number), nomor rekening (bank account number), and nomor seri (serial number). It also appears in ordinal expressions (nomor satu, nomor dua) and in references to publications or administrative documents (nomor edisi, nomor surat).

In mathematics and daily counting, the actual value is typically expressed with angka or bilangan, while nomor denotes the label that identifies that value within a set. For example, a person might say "nomor tiga belas" to refer to the label '13' rather than the property of the number itself. The term is therefore more about identification and sequencing than about the numerical magnitude.

Etymology: Nomor is borrowed from Dutch nummer, ultimately from French numéro and Latin numerus. In Malay, a closely related term is nombor, reflecting regional spelling variations.
