Nominalisaationa

Nominalisaationa is a linguistic term used to describe the process and system by which verbs and clauses are transformed into noun-like forms within a language or a theoretical framework. The word emphasizes nominalization as a central morphosyntactic phenomenon and is used in discussions that focus on the interface between verbal meaning and noun phrases.

Nominalisaationa encompasses several mechanisms. Affixal nominalisation marks the noun form directly on the verb stem with suffixes or prefixes; periphrastic nominalisation uses explicit determiners and noun phrases; and zero nominalisation relies on context and syntax to function as a noun without overt marking. The resulting nominal forms typically participate in noun-phrase syntax, agreeing with numerals, determiners, case, or number in many languages.

Semantically, nominalisation often encodes eventive, habitual, or abstract meanings. It allows speakers to reference actions, processes, or states as entities, enabling accumulation of modifiers and complex arguments. Nominalised clauses may take sentential predicates, or function as subjects and objects in larger clauses.

Some languages maintain rich verbal-nominal systems with dedicated nominalisers; others use more analytic strategies, forming noun phrases from entire clauses.
