Nitraadesterone is a synthetic anabolic steroid derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT), primarily used in veterinary medicine for its growth-promoting and metabolic effects. Chemically, it belongs to the class of 17α-alkylated steroids, which enhances its oral bioavailability but also contributes to hepatotoxicity (liver toxicity) in some species. The compound is often administered orally in the form of its acetate ester, nitraadesterone acetate, to livestock such as cattle and pigs to improve feed efficiency, muscle development, and weight gain.

In veterinary applications, nitraadesterone is typically combined with other hormones like estrogens or progestins to mitigate adverse effects such as aggression or reproductive disturbances.
