Nitrílica

Nitrílica refers to a class of organic compounds characterized by the presence of a nitrile functional group. This group consists of a cyano group, which is a carbon atom triple-bonded to a nitrogen atom (C≡N). Nitriles are a diverse group of chemicals with a wide range of applications and properties.

The nitrile functional group is polar due to the electronegativity difference between carbon and nitrogen. This polarity influences the reactivity and physical properties of nitriles, such as their solubility and boiling points. Many simple nitriles are liquids at room temperature and are often used as solvents in organic chemistry due to their ability to dissolve both polar and nonpolar substances.

They are also important intermediates in the synthesis of other organic compounds. For instance, hydrolysis of nitriles can lead to carboxylic acids, and reduction can yield amines.

Industrially, nitriles have significant uses. Acrylonitrile, a common nitrile, is a key monomer in the production of plastics like acrylic fibers, ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) resin, and nitrile rubber. Nitrile gloves, made from synthetic nitrile rubber, are widely used in healthcare and laboratories due to their resistance to chemicals and puncture. Some nitriles also find applications in pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pesticides. The specific properties and uses of a nitrile compound depend heavily on the nature of the rest of the molecule attached to the cyano group.
