Niskhe

Niskhe is a fictional city and regional hub in the northern coast of the continent of Ardentia, within the realm of Veridia. It serves as the administrative center of the Niskhe Province in the federation of Veridia. The name is of uncertain origin; local tradition points to the old word nis, meaning shore or harbor.

It sits on the delta of the Niss River, with a temperate maritime climate. The terrain includes low escarpments to the east and a sandy shoreline to the west. The area covers roughly 60 square kilometers. The population is around 115,000.

Niskhe was founded in the 12th century by merchant households and grew around its harbor. It expanded during the maritime era, with a railway link added in the 19th century. In the late 20th century, it underwent reforms that expanded local governance and deconcentrated planning powers.

The port handles general cargo, containerized shipments, and fishing. The city hosts light manufacturing, logistics services, and a growing technology services sector. Tourism centers on the harborfront, historic districts, and natural attractions nearby.

Niskhe is governed by a mayor-council system, with a city council of 24 members. It is the seat of the Niskhe Provincial Assembly and participates in Veridia's federated governance.

Notable sites include the Old Quay, the Niskhe Cathedral of St. Mira, and the Verdant University campus. The annual Tide Festival celebrates maritime heritage and draws visitors from across the region.
