Nijko

Nijko is a town and municipality in the western part of Veridia, a fictional European-inspired nation. It covers an area of about 42 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 9,600 as of 2021. The town sits in a fertile lowland corridor along the Nijko River, with agriculture and light industry as its primary economic pillars. The surrounding landscape combines farmland, small woodlands, and a nearby nature reserve.

History and development

Nijko traces its origins to the 14th century, when a river crossing spurred settlement and market activity. It grew as a regional trade node and acquired municipal rights in the 19th century during modernization reforms. The arrival of railway service in the late 19th century facilitated growth, followed by expansion and modernization after World War II. Today, the town preserves several historic structures alongside newer developments.

Government and administration

Nijko is governed by a municipal council elected every four years, with a mayor serving as the head of the executive. The council manages local services, planning, and cultural programs, while the prefectural authorities oversee regional coordination.
