Nigéria

Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country located in West Africa. It is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. Nigeria shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its southern border is a coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of Nigeria is Abuja, and its largest city is Lagos.

The country is a federation comprising 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society, with over 250 ethnic groups speaking more than 500 distinct languages. The major ethnic groups are the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. English is the official language.

Nigeria's economy is one of the largest in Africa, driven by oil and gas production, agriculture, and a growing services sector. It is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, OPEC, and the Commonwealth of Nations. The country gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960.

Nigeria's geography is diverse, ranging from tropical rainforests in the south to savannas in the north. The Niger River and the Benue River are two major rivers that traverse the country. The nation faces various challenges, including economic development, security, and governance, but it remains a significant player on the African continent.
