Nichirenists

Nichirenists are followers of the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin, a 13th-century Japanese Buddhist monk. Nichiren's teachings center on the Lotus Sutra, which he believed contained the complete and ultimate truth of Buddhism. A core practice for Nichirenists is the chanting of the mantra Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, which translates to "Devotion to the Mystic Law of the Lotus Sutra." They believe this practice allows individuals to access their inherent Buddha nature and achieve enlightenment in this lifetime.

Nichirenists emphasize the importance of actively propagating the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, often referred to as shakubuku, which involves engaging in dialogue and sharing the Buddhist principles with others. While Nichiren's original teachings were singular, various schools and organizations have emerged over time, each with distinct interpretations and organizational structures. Despite these differences, a common thread among Nichirenists is their unwavering devotion to the Lotus Sutra and the practice of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. They often engage in study groups and communal chanting sessions to deepen their understanding and practice.
