Neurogene

Neurogene is not a standardized term in modern genetics. In scientific writing, it is sometimes used informally as a descriptive label for a gene implicated in neural development or neural function. As a compound word, neurogene can be applied to any gene with evidence of involvement in the nervous system, but it lacks a formal definition or universal nomenclature. Because of its descriptive nature, its usage varies by study and author, and it is often superseded by the precise gene symbol or locus (for example, NEUROG1, NEUROG2, or other named genes).

Neurogene should not be confused with neurogenin, a specific family of transcription factors that play roles in neurogenesis. The similarity in name reflects common roots but does not imply identity. In practice, researchers typically cite exact genes and their regulatory context to avoid ambiguity.

In addition to its biological usage, Neurogene may be used as a corporate or project name in the biotechnology sector, separate from any biological concept. When encountered in literature or media, context should guide interpretation; consult official sources to determine whether a particular reference denotes a gene, a study design, or an organization.
