NetLedger

NetLedger was a cloud-based accounting and business management platform introduced in the late 1990s. Targeted at small and midsize businesses, it provided online financial management, invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting, with early CRM and e-commerce capabilities. It was notable for delivering a hosted, multi-tenant solution accessible through a web browser.

NetLedger, Inc. developed the platform as one of the first software-as-a-service offerings for accounting and back-office operations. By eliminating the need for on-premises servers and complex installations, it aimed to simplify deployment and maintenance for SMBs. The service was hosted remotely, with updates and security managed by the provider.

Over time, the product line and corporate branding evolved. The NetLedger offering was expanded and rebranded into NetSuite, broadening into a full ERP suite, including inventory and order management, production planning, customer relationship management, e-commerce, and advanced reporting. The expansion positioned NetSuite as a leading cloud-based ERP platform for growing businesses.

In 2016, Oracle Corporation announced an acquisition of NetSuite for approximately $9.3 billion, integrating NetSuite as a cloud ERP solution within Oracle's cloud business. The NetLedger branding was phased out as the product operated under the NetSuite name within Oracle.

NetLedger's early entry helped shape the market for cloud-based accounting and ERP software for small to midsize enterprises.
