Nepomucen is a given name of Slavic origin. It is derived from the Bohemian name Jan Nepomucký, which translates to "John of Pomuk". The name refers to Saint John of Nepomuk, a revered Catholic priest and martyr who lived in the 14th century. He was confessor to Sophia of Bavaria, the wife of King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia. According to tradition, John of Nepomuk refused to reveal the confessions of the queen to the king, who was suspicious of his wife. This act of fidelity led to his torture and eventual drowning in the Vltava River.
