Neopreneisella

Neopreneisella is a genus of marine worms belonging to the phylum Annelida and the family Aeolosomatidae. These organisms are characterized by their elongated, tube-like bodies, typically ranging in length from several millimeters to a few centimeters.

They are found in various aquatic environments worldwide, including tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions. Neopreneisella species inhabit a range of habitats, from shallow marine sediments and coral reefs to brackish and freshwater environments.

Microscopal examination of Neopreneisella worms reveals distinct characteristics, such as a reduced peristomium, absence of setae (bristles), and a rounded, terminal chaetae arrangement. The worms' mouthparts, known as pharyngeal pouches, are typically well-developed, suggesting an eversible and introvertible nature.

Research on Neopreneisella indicates that they may serve as indicators of environmental change, including shifts in salinity and sediment composition. Given their sensitivity to alterations in their ecosystems, they can provide useful insights into the long-term health and stability of marine and brackish environments.
