Nellore

Nellore is a city and the administrative headquarters of Sri Potti Sreeramulu Nellore district in the Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. It lies on the banks of the Penna River near its mouth at the Bay of Bengal. The name is commonly believed to derive from Nelluru or “nellu-ooru,” reflecting its historical association with rice cultivation.

Historically, the area has been part of various South Indian polities and trading networks, and later came under colonial administration as part of the Madras Presidency. After the reorganization of states, it became part of Andhra Pradesh.
