Nelahozeves

Nelahozeves is a municipality located in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on the Vltava River, approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Prague. The village is most famous for its imposing Renaissance chateau, Nelahozeves Castle, which is a significant historical landmark. This château was built in the 16th century and is one of the largest Renaissance residences in Bohemia. It houses an impressive art collection, including works by Flemish and Dutch masters.

The history of Nelahoves dates back to the medieval period. The settlement grew around a fortress that later developed into the current castle complex. The village itself has a long-standing tradition of winemaking and agriculture, though its proximity to Prague has led to increased suburbanization in recent decades. Beyond the castle, Nelahozeves features a Baroque church dedicated to Saint Andrew. The municipality is also known as the birthplace of the renowned Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.
