Negativejákvæðar

Negativejákvæðar, also known as negative affirmatives, are a grammatical feature found in certain languages, including Icelandic and Faroese. They are formed by combining a negative word with an affirmative verb form. In Icelandic, for example, the negative word "ekki" (not) is added to the end of the verb stem, followed by the appropriate verb ending. This construction is used to express a negative action or state in a positive context.

The use of negativejákvæðar can add nuance and emphasis to a statement. For instance, in Icelandic, saying "Ég hef ekki borðað" (I have not eaten) can imply that the speaker expected to eat but did not, whereas "Ég hef borðað ekki" (I have eaten not) can imply that the speaker did not expect to eat.
