Necromundas

Necromunda is a fictional hive city featured in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It is a vast, densely populated planet-sized metropolis, a quintessential example of the grim darkness of the far future. The planet's surface is uninhabitable, buried under centuries of industrial waste and toxic smog, forcing its billions of inhabitants to live in colossal, tiered hive structures that pierce the perpetual gloom.

Life on Necromunda is harsh and stratified. The upper levels, known as the Spire, are home to the wealthy elite and the ruling Houses, enjoying relative comfort and access to resources. Below them lie the mid-hives, where the bulk of the population resides, often in overcrowded and impoverished conditions. The lowest depths, the Underhive, are a lawless warren of forgotten tunnels, toxic swamps, and abandoned hab-blocks. This is where the most desperate and dangerous elements of Necromundan society eke out an existence.

The economy of Necromunda is driven by vast industrial complexes and mining operations, extracting precious minerals and manufacturing goods for the Imperium. However, this industry also pollutes the planet to an extreme degree. Gang warfare is endemic, particularly in the Underhive, as various factions vie for territory, resources, and survival. These gangs are often composed of outcasts, mutants, and those who have fallen through the cracks of Necromundan society. The Adeptus Arbites, the Imperial law enforcement, maintain a tenuous grip on order, but their authority often struggles against the pervasive criminality. Necromunda serves as a stark illustration of the extreme social inequality and brutal living conditions prevalent in many parts of the Warhammer 40,000 setting.
