Nearaphelion is a descriptive term in celestial mechanics referring to the portion of an object's orbit around the Sun when its distance from the Sun approaches the orbit’s aphelion, the farthest point from the Sun. It is not a formal designation of a specific orbital phase, but rather a way to describe moments near the maximum solar distance for a body on an elliptical orbit.

In orbital mechanics, aphelion distance is r_a = a(1 + e), where a is the semi-major axis and e is the eccentricity. The distance at any true anomaly θ is r = a(1 − e^2) / (1 + e cos θ). Nearaphelion corresponds to θ values close to π (180 degrees). At these angles, the velocity is near its minimum, as given by the vis-viva equation v^2 = μ(2/r − 1/a); the radial component of velocity also tends to zero as θ approaches π, while the motion is largely tangential.

Practical implications include observations of brightness and motion.
