Nasenmuschelveränderungen

Nasenmuschelveränderungen refer to alterations in the nasal conchae, also known as turbinates. These are bony structures within the nasal cavity that are covered in mucous membranes. Their primary function is to warm, humidify, and filter inhaled air before it reaches the lungs. Changes in the size, shape, or structure of these conchae can lead to various nasal symptoms and breathing difficulties.

Common causes of nasenmuschelveränderungen include chronic rhinitis, allergic reactions, and environmental irritants. Inflammation of the nasal mucosa can cause the conchae to swell, a condition known as turbinate hypertrophy. This swelling obstructs airflow, leading to nasal congestion, difficulty breathing through the nose, and sometimes post-nasal drip. In some cases, the conchae may develop polyps or become permanently enlarged due to long-term inflammation. Structural abnormalities present from birth or resulting from trauma can also affect the conchae.

Symptoms associated with nasenmuschelveränderungen are primarily related to impaired nasal airflow and the resulting consequences. These can include persistent nasal obstruction, snoring, mouth breathing, and a reduced sense of smell. Headaches and facial pressure may also occur. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination of the nasal cavity, often with the aid of a nasal endoscope. Imaging studies like CT scans may be used to further assess the extent of the changes. Treatment strategies vary depending on the underlying cause and severity, ranging from medical management with nasal sprays and antihistamines to surgical interventions aimed at reducing the size of the hypertrophied conchae.
