Naruenís

Naruenís refers to a fictional seafaring culture and its language, originating in the Narunean Archipelago in the eastern seas of the world of Eldoria. The term is used for both the people and their cultural traditions. The name is said to derive from Naruen, meaning sea, with the plural suffix -ís.

The homeland comprises three principal islands—Kyrathos, Lirion, and Thalassa—and numerous islets, with rugged shores, sheltered bays, and coral reefs. Major ports include Varos and Aletheia, serving as trading hubs for interisland and foreign fleets.

Naruenís society is organized around kin-based clans and maritime guilds. Leadership combines elder councils with elected captain-representatives. The economy emphasizes shipbuilding, long-distance trade, fishing, and drift-net weaving, aided by sophisticated navigation techniques and seasonal sailing cycles.

The Naruenís language, a member of a coastal language group, is primarily oral but has a formal writing system developed through contact with traders. It features melodic phonology, agglutinative morphology, and a syllabary used in maritime logs and ceremonial inscriptions.

Historical records date from the 9th century on clay tablets and carved stones. The Tide Confederation, a maritime alliance of clans, arose to defend fisheries and trade routes. The archipelago maintained independence amid regional powers and faced periods of external pressure and cultural exchange.

Religion centers on sea deities and tide spirits. Key rituals include the Moon Tide festival and ship-blessing ceremonies that accompany voyages. Artisans produce intricate sail motifs and wood carvings depicting sea legends.
