Narrel

Narrel is a fictional town in the country of Veridia, located in the Veridian Highlands along the Narrel River. As of the mid-2020s, it has a resident population of about 11,000. The economy combines agriculture, forestry, and light manufacturing, with services and tourism contributing a growing share. The town is administered by a mayor and a nine-member town council within Veridia’s provincial framework.

The name Narrel derives from the Narri language, meaning "river bend," a toponym reflecting the river’s course through the town. Geographically, Narrel sits about 75 kilometers north of Veridia’s capital and occupies a rolling, hilly landscape with temperate rainfall, four distinct seasons, and fertile valleys that support farming and small-scale vineyards.

Narrel’s history centers on river trade and agrarian settlement. It is believed to have been founded in the 13th century by Narri-speaking settlers. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century spurred growth, followed by modernization after World War II, including expanded public services and road construction. Today the town combines a historic core with newer residential and industrial zones.

Civic life emphasizes education, culture, and environmental stewardship. The town operates two primary schools, one secondary school, a public library, and a small regional hospital. Cultural highlights include an annual harvest festival, a folk museum, and the Narrel Gardens, a municipal botanic site that features native and cultivated species.

Narrel is connected by regional roads and a local bus network, with the nearest international airport in a neighboring city. The town sits within the broader Veridian Highlands and is linked to nearby settlements by a network of rural roads.
