Namches

Namches is a small town and communal municipality in the fictional country of Veridia. It sits in the Veridian highlands near the Nam River and serves as the administrative center of the Namches District.

The town covers about 12 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape is mixed forest and farmland, with a temperate climate featuring warm summers and cool, wet winters. The Nam River contributes to irrigation and local drainage.

Settlement in Namches dates to at least the 12th century, and the town grew around a hilltop fortress later converted into a parish church. It received town rights in the late medieval period and has remained a local hub since.

The economy centers on agriculture—cereals, fruit, and dairy—supplemented by small manufacturing and a growing tourism sector. As of the latest estimates, Namches has a population of roughly 5,800 residents. The community is ethnically homogeneous with Veridian as the majority language; minority speakers of Lirian are present.

Key sites include Namches Abbey, a 13th-century church with Romanesque arches, the Market Hall built in the 19th century, and the riverside promenade. The annual Namches Harvest Festival and the winter market are important events.
