Namíbia

Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Angola to the north, Zambia to the northeast, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Namibia is the thirty-fourth largest country in the world by area and the least densely populated sovereign country in the world. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek.

The country's landscape is dominated by the Namib Desert, a vast desert stretching along the Atlantic coast. Other notable features include the Etosha Pan, a large salt pan in the north, and the Kavango and Zambezi rivers forming its northern border. Namibia is known for its diverse wildlife and its commitment to conservation, with a significant portion of its land designated as protected areas.

Namibia's history is marked by periods of indigenous rule, German colonization, and South African administration. It gained independence from South Africa on March 21, 1990. The country is a parliamentary republic. Its economy relies heavily on mining, particularly diamonds, uranium, and other minerals. Tourism is also a growing sector, attracting visitors with its natural beauty and wildlife.

The population of Namibia is ethnically diverse, with various African ethnic groups, including Ovambo, Kavango, and Herero, as well as communities of European and mixed descent. Afrikaans and English are widely spoken, alongside indigenous languages like Oshiwambo and Herero. The country faces challenges related to poverty, inequality, and HIV/AIDS, but has made progress in various social and economic indicators since independence.
